The time our group saved a few people from a cult while killing several of cultists (almost) without drawing a weapon /u/AufdemLande DnD: Roll for Initiative!

A few days ago I told the story about how a question ingame made the DM skipping pages. From that same campaign there is another glorious story without annoying the DM too much (I hope).

The picture: We still are around Amphail a few days later than the last story. Stuff happened and the town was conquered by the cult. Inhabitants got abducted and a few still hid in the houses of the town. Groups of cultists were patrolling the streets in search of inhabitants and possible resistance. A big restistance already got squished before we reached the town again after some traveling outsite of the town.

Our group of six was halved. Three were on another mission, while us three (Me: Dragonborn sorcadin, gnome monk and human range fighter) made plans in an selfmade outpost from a friendly alchemist in the woods outside the town. The plans included raiding and infiltrating the town and cult.

After we successful killed two groups and took their uniforms we found out that one of the uniforms was from a officer that controlled one third of the town. With that we hatched out our plan to save some people and maybe damage the cult further. The human fighter took the uniform of the officer, gathering all the cultitst we could find from that part of the town to a place far away from the rest and then the gnome and me would walk openly through the streets empty of cultists to get out and summon all those inhabitants that were still hiding. For this the gnome took a flag from the town and used it as a cape.

The plan went well, maybe too well. We prepared a house on one side of town beforehand with letters and clues about a possible resistance against the cult. The human fighter in his role as officer ordered all cultist to this house, screaming at them they have to strip down the whole house if they have to to find the clues about the resistance. The intimidation roll went too well and the group of around 30 cultists ran into the house and searched everything. While doing so they damaged the house which collapsed partly on the searching cultists. In the end only a third of cultists survived (DM rolled what would happen and how many survive) and they found the letter. The townsfolk we saved gathered outside in the woods and later helped in fighting the cult.
