Are the people of the United States actually as divided (politically speaking) in every day life as it seems they are online? /u/Oppai_Lover21 No such thing as stupid questions

As in, do their political opinions really influence their daily loves as much social media would make you think?

Do the liberals really treat conservatives like the “demons” they seem to believe they are online, etc.

Do the conservatives actually act hateful or discriminate against liberals, particularly the LGBTQ+ community in real life?

Or is my social media just showing me the extremes?

For further context, I’m African, in my country, there’s basically no actual distinction between people of either major party beyond just the name tbh.

Everyone’s just trying not to starve and most people don’t have the time or comfort to think about less pressing issues like gender, sexuality etc.

And this question came to me after seeing the online reaction to Elon Musk’s blunder(?)
