Why do we send firemen to a non-emergency situation that doesnt involve fire and not just send in a regular ambulance? /u/Suggestion_Rejected No such thing as stupid questions

Why is it that the fire department shows up to every non-fire related accident? A car wreck, a person falling in a store or gun shot victim, 3 emergencies that require immediate assistance and possibly transport to a hospital, yet they one who always arrives first is the fire department. Why? What’s the point of the ambulance then? Is it just a really expensive Uber for the injured? I understand sending a cop in certain emergencies and I get the ambulance being there but never the fire department. On another note though, why don’t hospitals have their own ambulance service for the public? Instead we get multiple different privately owned ambulances showing up to the same emergency like a tow truck to a wreck. It seems beneficial if they just used their own ambulance for the surrounding area. Plus it would be added income so what am I missing?
