Hi Folks,
I am a PhD student in a US university doing Federated Learning and looking at 1.5 years from graduation. Last few months I have been trying to search for an internship in big tech but nothing has materialized.
I am kid of at cross roads at this point. My research so far has not used anything related to generative AI like Diffusion, LLMs, etc., My research has some overlaps with wireless and computer networks. So I really want to get a job in 1.5 years from now and graduate. However, I am not sure what is the best path forward. Should I go forge ahead and get into the generative AI field or other hot AI areas like LLMs or should I invest effort in strengthening my domain knowledge in wireless/computer networks?
I am really concerned that generative AI is so popular these days that everyone from undergrads to PhDs are doing it and it will be super competitive to get into. Thus, I do not know what is the right thing to do here.
Any person who is well informed from the industry perspective can please weigh in and provide some guidance on the best way forward here.
