Ex software developer, went to Project Management, considering going back to SW /u/Human_Log356 Python Education

I’m in my early 40s with a BSc and MSc in Computer Science. After spending a few years in software development, I transitioned to project management consulting and later completed an MBA.

Software development has always been my passion, and even now, I still dabble in scripting (python), spinning up my own containers for personal use on my NAS, tweaking my raspberry pi, etc. I’m a geek at heart and have always loved the sciences, but I pursued management because it seemed to offer better financial prospects and career advancement. I also spent a lot of time talking to people, rather than coding, in my early days, and this is how I decided I was more apt for management roles.

I’ve often thought about returning to software development, but I never made the switch because I always had a job. Now, after being out of work for a few months, I’m seriously considering going back to something I could happily do for 15 hours a day.

If anyone has had a similar experience, I’d love to hear your story. I know many people move from software to management after a few years, but has anyone gone the other way?
