Hello, I’m a junior web dev with just under a year of experience. I love my job, but lately, I’ve been feeling anxious about my performance and worried I might be let go if I don’t step things up. I’d really appreciate any anecdotes / advice on how to improve my situation.
My manager has always been hands-off, letting me do my work and helping when I asked. But recently, she’s started reviewing my PRs, pointing out mistakes, and even messaging me about issues which she never did before. On top of that, she’s now working on projects I am solely responsible for.
My two biggest issues that I am looking for some advice on are:
- Attention to Detail – I label things inconsistently, ask for help when answers are in the docs, and repeat mistakes that have already been pointed out. I’m working on this, but it’s not an overnight fix. This has been something that has been an issue for me entire life and I really don’t know where to start or how to fix it. I know it may sound like a simple solution to some, but this has truly been the bane of my existence.
- Understanding Tickets Correctly – Sometimes I complete a ticket, only to informed that what I did wasn’t what the client asked for. Honestly this is a case of poor reading comprehension skills and also being a bit of a noob. Sometimes I don’t fully understand the scope of issues until I make a mistake. Then I get the big picture and am able to go from there.
