In my opinion, OSRS was in one of the best places its been in a long time. The content was great, the balance was great, the player count was really great, and most importantly, people weren’t second guessing or even thinking about the longevity of the game.
When we sink so much of our time and lives into this one game, one thing we NEVER want to have to think about is the mortality of the game. We need to blindly play and not think about what happens if the game sinks, in order for this game to continue to screw up our dopamine reward system and have “fun” lol
The last time the community has put this much thought and question into the longevity of the game was in 2012. I personally didn’t think the changes in 2012 made RS unplayable (although I did not like them), but a lot of people did quit, and I no longer felt comfortable putting a lot of time into a game rapidly losing its player base.
When the suits steering the ship decide to take more profit at the cost of any percentage of the player base, this problem will become exponentially irreversible, as many people (like myself) enjoy playing this game with others.
W2 ge in RS3 is and has been for a very long time, SAD. There is no one there which serves as a constant reminder that the game is dying or is already dead. For a “forever game” as Jagex likes to call it to work, people need to actually believe it can last forever. Or at the very least not think about it.
