Take A Gap Year? /u/Weak-Calligrapher633 CSCQ protests reddit

I’m currently in my third semester of college and I realize that I’m completely behind. It’s likely that I’ll be able to graduate on the spring or fall semester of 2026 but I have very few skills, no projects, no internships, and considering from what I’ve heard about the job market, I have absolutely no hope.

I’m working to rectify that lack of material, but at this point I feel like it might just be smarter for me to switch majors early. With that said, I still have an interest in programming and not struggling in my classes, so I would prefer to stay if possible.

The gap year is so that I have more time to work on projects, grind on learning skills, and hopefully land an internship (and admittedly in the vain hope that the job market might potentially be better, even by the slightest bit) but that would just be barely catching up to everyone else and I’m not sure if it’s worth it.

I might just be being extremely negative and being a doomer like the countless other posts on these cs subs. Any advice?
