TLDR; As a brand new player should I even bother to the play the game if the membership price could shoot up in a year or have tons of strings attached?
I’ve been playing rpgs all my life, things like Dark Souls, Borderlands and Pokemon etc. I love the grinding aspect of games, farming the raid bosses on borderlands 2 for that perfect drop, or breeding for the perfect IV pokemon is really fun.
I wanted to get into an mmo, I have for a while, so when I heard about OSRS from Settled’s Mctile playthrough I was really interested. It’s has a ton of grinding, skill progression, bossing and most of all a loyal community, what’s not to love.
However, two days into me playing the game and this massive riot is happening, I looked into it and found out that riots like this has happened before. So as a brand new player to OSRS, I ask the veterans of the community. Should I even bother to play this game long term?
I’m not one to worry about the future, but this is a little concerning, I don’t want to play a game when it’s membership price could double or have lots of strings attached in a year or so. Even if the community riots everytime the devs threaten more money from its players, I feel after a while of repeatedly batting away the same bug it’ll slowly but eventually have its way. It just seems like a repetitive and tiring effort to have to constantly fight back against your games own creators.
With the riot happening I thought I’d put in my part, I coincidentally canceled my membership for other reasons but for now I’m not renewing or playing the game. I’ve only played for a couple days but if I want to play the game I’ll be a part of the riot, even if it means I’m new or late to the party.
