If US tariffs are just going to raise the cost of US goods for US buyers than why is Canada threatening to raise it’s own tariffs? /u/NeverWasntEver No such thing as stupid questions

My basic understanding is that tariffs in the US make it so that US business’s can compete with cheaper markets other places. Good for business’s (sorta) but bad for consumer as it raises the prices.

Why tho is Canada threatening to retaliate? Wouldn’t that just raise prices in Canada?
