Someone told me at some companies bosses can’t fire their employees because they have to get approval from HR and then HR declines them. Is that a real thing? /u/Ben5544477 No such thing as stupid questions

One time someone told me a phrase like this:

“The way some companies operate is your manager can’t decide to fire you by himself/herself. In fact, even if he/she strongly wanted to fire you they can’t if a department such as HR declines them”

I was just curious if this sounds right?
