Using promotion to apply for jobs before it actually takes effect? /u/Al_Palllll CSCQ protests reddit

I have been an L4 SDE at Amazon for ~2 years now. My manager told me this morning that my L5 promotion was approved during the talent review meeting.

My plan has generally been to get the L5 promotion and then start searching for other opportunities. However, the L5 promotion won’t actually take effect until Q2 of this year. Therefore, I worry that if I use the new title for my job applications right now, any company that performs a background check might think I am lying.

Should I wait to start the job search until after the promotion takes effect?
