PSA: If a game is on GOG, chances are it’s DRM-free on Steam, too! /u/No-Journalist-120 Steam on Reddit

Sometimes, some of you might be indecisive between buying a game on GOG or Steam for DRM reasons. But! Steam DRM is completely optional for the publisher. And, if someone published their game on GOG, they’re likely to make it DRM-free on Steam as well.

This means you can open the game by clicking directly on its executable in the file browser, even without having Steam open. And, of course, you can import it into third party launchers.

Noteworthy examples are: Darkest Dungeon, both Divinity: Original Sins, Baldur’s Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, all of the Witchers, Cassette Beasts, both Fear & Hungers, Hades.

Note: playing without Steam means you won’t be getting achievements while you play. However, some games save achievements internally, so they are ready to unlock as soon as you open Steam again! This is typical of games that release on Switch, since the Switch has no console-level achievement system.
