I have about a year of experience and god dam my senior and mentor is so good at their job.
We do maintenance on a huge legacy codebase used by around 10,000 internal employees with Java mainly.
I just had a discussion with them and they implemented so much DRY functionality just from seeing a few incidents spread throughout the month. They then tried to explain to me how it is used so that I could use those functions myself, although i understand why it is used, and the usefulness of it, I can’t help but feel the huge gap between me and them.
So is there anyway I can practice their way of coding? The whole system is locked out of the internet, so copying the codebase home and analysing it is not possible.
