Just wanted to share my experience with yall. If tldr, I understand /u/Flaky-Product-3754 Monster Hunter: World

Just had an eye opening moment where I caught myself not only underestimating the skill a weapon takes to use but my skill with it. And I wanted to take the time to share the experience with yall.

Now for context, since wilds beta. I have been struggling to decide what weapon/s I want to main for my first play through.

So after the beta ended I started a new play through of WorldBourne and RiseBreak (and gen u here and there) to try an get a feel for what weapon/s I want to use in wilds.

And I hopped from weapons I used a lot and know well, like GS, to weapons I barely used and know nothing about like CB.

But recently I hopped on lance, a weapon I’ve used before but not as much as weapons like GS, but way more than weapons like CB. A weapon I know the basics of but haven’t mastered.

But throughout playing, I found myself saying things like, this feels like a cop out, feels so easy and skill-less. Not much combo wise just poke poke poke hop repeat.

But I got to MR Special assignment kirin today And ran through all the other weapons I been using aside lance, and just fail upon fail upon fail. Even with weapons I’ve solo’d the likes of fatalis with before.

When I finally landed on lance. I told myself “if I can bear Kirin in 1 try I will stick with lance, for these games and wilds.

Well I did, 1st try, 15 mins, 1 death. Compared to multiple tries with other weapons 3 deaths, 20+ min attempts.

But it’s within this 1 hunt, I realized between worldbourne and risebreak (and gen u) how much I’ve learned and become in tune with lance. I mean my timing with blocks etc. doesn’t feel clunky no more either.

But with this, and thinking about all I learned, I realized while yea the poking and blocking it self is ez to pick up on.

Adjusting to the clunky slowness of the weapon and getting used to hoping instead of rolling.

Stamina management. Knowing how long to hold block, or when to block. What attacks you can or can’t block. How much damage/stamina each version of the block will chip off.

The weapon to be effective and efficient with takes way more to learn than what people think.

Anyways, again. I just wanted to share the experience. So to anybody that actually took the time to read. Appreciate ya.
