I read a Columbia article about “how to wash a puffer jacket” for synthetic and natural down and this is what I learned /u/Mysterious-Airline43 /r/malefashionadvice

Things I learned:

  1. The top-load washing machine can catch and destroy your jacket so the front-load washing machine is the best.
  2. Add tennis balls in the air fluff cycle will help fluff and declump your puffer jacket. (make sure they are clean)

Instructions:

  • Washing wash
    1. Brush off dirt and grime
    2. Zip the sippers, button the buttons
    3. Turn inside out
    4. FRONT LOAD WASHER, gentle/delicate cycle, cold water, mild detergent
    5. Air fluff or lowest heat dry with two or three clean tennis balls to declump
  • Hand wash
    1. Brush off dirt and grime
    2. Soak in lightly warm to cold water 30-60 minutes
    3. Gently wash with down-friendly mild detergent
    4. Rinse well in cold water and gently squeeze out excess water (not wring or twist)
    5. Air fluff or lowest heat dry with two or three clean tennis balls to declump
