Anybody feel like they dont have a good grasp on their job? /u/Academic_Study5487 CSCQ protests reddit

Not sure if its just me but i just feel like i cant get a good hold of anything in my job.

Ive been in this career for 7 years. Started out in an embedded systems job that paid good but didnt pay great compared to competitors. I stayed for 4 years because i lvoed the people and the work was interesting and not that stressful with deadlines.

After 4 years i decided to chase the bag a little and went to a FAANG company to work on a database system. Im making great money with great stock but In the almost 3 years ive been at this company, it has not been easy. Expectations are at an all time high here, seems i get tackled with multiple busy tasks that take days. When i complete a task, corporate politics seem to come into play and they want to add other things to delay the completion of the tasks. It’s like every time i merge something, someone has some type of concern or addition that adds a few days.

My boss’ manager (who used to be my manager until he got a promotion)has mentioned how it takes me longer than he’d like to complete tasks. He’s seen alot of improvements but still feels i should be better.

My current task i never got time to really start it until late last week because i was testing in finishing things of higher priority, then the holidays i was one of two people in the office and was given ownership over one of our testing environments that is always broken or has some issue so it took huge parts of my day to complete. Now im getting note that they dont like how long the current task has taken.

Seems they tell me “dont work longer hours” but theres always a wink-wink and last few months i find myself working 10+ hours. Only reason i dont do weekend hours as much is because i know once i start doing that its going to take over my life and it will be months of working 6-7 days a week.

Im hoping market starts looking better so i can apply to more jobs this year as i feel like my days are starting to get numbered here esepcially since there are rumors of future layoffs.

Anybody else in a similar situation?
