Like, I get that they military offers money and you can get certifications and degrees and stuff from it, but why would you join?
My father always wanted to join the military because he believed it would “give him discipline,” but I don’t get that.
From all the stories I’ve heard (especially those from soldiers), you live in awful conditions, you’re treated as and are just another grunt, and you’re broken down to a shell of yourself. All of that, and apparently the money isn’t even that good. Plus there’s the added stress of stuff happening to you by other individuals who sign up. I’ve heard from soldiers that a lot of soldiers(specifically women) get raped. It just seems like an absolutely awful environment.
In top of all that, there’s the added threat of being deployed in the event a war debuts. Like, imagine signing up to “defend your country” and you end up dying over trying to take poppies and gold and shit in Afghanistan (when that was still going on) as just any other grunt. This is especially bad because nowadays there are no true conflicts one can be deployed to, so why would anyone sign up? I kinda get signing up to help the front and defend your country (WW2), but when there’s no conflicts going in and any modern conflicts are in bad nature, why would anyone sign up?
Idk. To me personally, from accounts I’ve heard, it’s sort of like a form of prison. I just don’t get why people would subject themselves to defending their country as just another number where they have to be subjected to such an awful situation. Maybe it’s just because I don’t have that kinda mindset, but I don’t understand why people sign up for the military in the modern day?
