Why do Americans have their parcels left outside their door? /u/Extension_Bit4323 No such thing as stupid questions

In the UK they are either given to the homeowner, an neighbour or put in a safe place or locker or depot or somewhere to pick up later. They’re never left in plain view outside.

Then I read and hear a lot of porch pirates and parcels been stolen right out of the hands of the delivery people and it sounds like a huge risk to get stuff delivered unless you stay inside and wait for them.
