Hating on this game for pacing is just… /u/dd-mck Red Dead Redemption

This is gonna be a big strawman argument. But I’m late to the party, only having played rdr2 for the first time through the last holidays. The threads popping up discussing the slow pacing and issues with this game are all at least a couple years old. But still, I want to talk about it. A couple of cases:

  1. Walking is slow: yes, have you tried walking irl? It is slow af.
  2. Hunting/fishing is time consuming for too little yield: yes, as is the case irl. The solution? Bring an extra horse/donkey as people do…irl. Do you know how time-consuming it is just to skin an animal for a good pelt? The game actually speeds up most of the tedious stuff about the mundane activities and lets you enjoy the little fun out of them.
  3. Having to micromanage too many aspects, like brushing/feeding horse, eating, etc: that’s…just adulting.
  4. The AI in towns suck for bashing into the street right into your horse riding: maybe don’t drive like a lunatic in areas with dense population? Pedestrians have the right of way you idiot. They do in game, and they do outside.

A lot of complaints like these are just missing the point. There’s so much realism in this game. It’s a feature, not a bug. I’ve found myself roleplaying the heck out of this game for the past month. It’s fun to escape into a different world and just…exists like a normal human in that world. And that comes with chores, the dreadful passage of time, and responsibilities anyone would normally uphold irl.

Maybe the game isn’t for people who have such a short attention span and wish for more action-packed escapism. But they can’t hate on it for trying to imitate life as much as possible. It doesn’t make sense to me. Life is full of slow pacing and chores and stuff. But you still live in it, don’t you?

Rant over.
