I noticed that in many tables I’ve been as a player the DM never gave us any kind of trait, item or anything just because our lore or something. On the other hand when I DM I like giving players things as a way of saying thank you. For example, there’s a Bard who has a very long and detailed lore, long story short, she is a living doll with a chaotic entity inside, she is searching for her brother while the entity just want to be freed. Because of that lore, when they fought a group of occultists warding a powerful creature the entity absorbed said creature and, as a reward, the entity gave her a small chaotic imp that works as her new familiar.
I also like giving them a unique trait based on their lore. So my question is, is it normal for DMs to give these kind of gifts to players or I am just giving the love my dad never gave me?
