I’ll share my story first;
I was DMing a campaign that included my boyfriend playing as a Water Genasi fighter. He tends to be distracted and loose his place in the story, but good lord does he know how to use his ‘create/shape water’ spell. Multiple occasions where he uses his spell in such a way that catches me off guard every single time. The first time was when the party was going through an illusion of a maze and spotted a chest at the end of a corridor. It was planned to be a mimic fight, but boyfriend asked if he can use his create water spell over the spot where the chest was to see if it was indeed a mimic. Stunned for a few seconds, I let him have it, I rolled to see if the mimic can survive in the water…..nat 1. He made the mimic drown and avoided the fight. The second time it was right after an encounter with a cult in the church’s basement. During the encounter there were chalk outlines on the ground, when they went back to see if what they saw was real the outline was gone. Boyfriend uses the spell to fill the basement with water so it can catch leftover particles in the floor boards. Again stunned I let him have it, and sure enough he found chalk particles in the water. I still don’t know how he got the idea of using his spell in such creative ways
