I say this as a large guy 6’1, 230 pounds. This is not meant to be disparaging or hateful, but I’m very curious about the dynamics of this level of weight gain and the factors that play a role.
I’m in an area that is known for being generally pretty fit and I consistently see people who are likely well over 400 pounds.
Where I’m from originally in the south, it’s even more common.
I think about my (mostly) terrible eating habits, the times I’ve binged on food, the back pain, the stomach issues, and I just can’t reconcile how it’s even possible to add another 170-200 pounds.
It’s very difficult to believe that this is JUST caloric intake, as the level of consumption + COST of food over a long period of time would be difficult to achieve imo.
Is this hormonal (if so, what hormones)? Is it just purely behavioral? Is it what’s being put in the food?
PS: While based in the US, I’ve noticed an explosion in morbid obesity in Kuwait, Samoa, Mexico etc when processed food is introduced. Can anyone add any insight on that?
Thank you!!!
