Although I play games almost daily, I never quite managed to make many friends on Steam that I would regularly talk or play with, other than 2 guys that I spoke with almost everyday. One of them is from a country where the military service is mandatory so when he turned 18 he went to do his mandatory service.
Ever since we became friends on Steam, we barely played games, but we texted almost everyday, about everything possible, from politics to music. Although we didn’t play games together, we still had fun chatting for hours. It was our thing. As far as I can remember we only played Rocket League for twice in like 7 years of friendship.
During army he was barely active on Steam but from time to time, usually around 6-7 months, we managed to catch up because he was on a break, so back on Steam. Today I saw his account back online and I decided to write him a message, just to receive a text from his uncle, saying that he died 6 months ago. I was totally shocked. I didn’t ask if he died in the military or by something else because I didn’t want to upset his uncle more than he is already with my questions.
We were friends for so many years, however we never knew each other’s voices, real names, and we never shared social profiles. If I could turn back time, I would at least ask for his Instagram, at least I could know what my online friend looked like. I will never delete him from my friends. I’d like to go and check his profile from time to time, just to remember him.
Rest in peace bro, although we never met, you were like a brother to me and I will never forget the time and laughs we had together through that Steam Chat.
The news of his passing made me realize that I should enjoy my time on this Earth more, as tomorrow is never guaranteed. I suggest that you guys do the same, and I hope that every single one of you out there is doing good, and if not, keep going guys, better days will come.
