So I have a group of 5 player. I did my due diligence during recruiting to interview but as some of you may know sometimes a bad egg or two slips through the cracks. Now I wouldn’t call this player a “bad” player. However he does a lot of things in/out of game that annoys me.
-He quite frequently reminds everyone, especially me that he is a DM and that he is someone everyone should go to
-He rules lawyers but is incorrect like 90% of the time, to the point whenever he says someone several of us have to go look up what he just said and remind him he’s wrong
-He is adamant about how things are written in a way of how they should be run (raw vs rai) even going as far as just making a decision for my game
-He constantly whines and complains about how all of his options as a player are too “weak” yet he’s always searching up the most broken ways to play his character
-He has sent me some of his rewritten rules of the game, all of which is just broken junk, suggesting I should change things
-In game he plays a borderline “joke” character. In my rules I told my players no joke characters as my games are very serious tone and I don’t want to clash with my players. While he isn’t 100% joke, he does things that make the serious moments into a joke. However no one finds him funny as they are immersed into the game. People just going quiet when he does stuff
I’ve been very brick wall to his antics of what feels like trying to overrule my game. Reminding him that “this” is how I run my games. Yet he never stops. I’ve asked other players on the side “hey, how are you enjoying the game? Would you continue to play with this group for a long term?” And the answer is always “Yeah it’s so fun! There’s a few annoyances with players but it’s something I can ignore.” I mean..I think we are all thinking the same thing, however no one wants to be rude.
I thought about talking with this person as some might suggest, but this is the persons whole personality we’re talking about. It’s nothing serious, but constant minor obstructions that is just making my skin crawl and not enjoy the game.
What would you do?
