Is it ok to retire my character? /u/TheHasbroGAMER DnD: Roll for Initiative!

I’ve been playing in a 5e campaign recently with some people I met online a while back. We’ve been through a couple short campaigns already and I always drifted towards more human-esque, martial characters with limited or no magic. Before this campaign, my DM made an off-hand comment about seeing how I’d play a spell caster, so, I decided to make one. I’ve been playing and Elven Bladesinger for this campaign so far and, mechanically, it’s fun. But I have a really hard time creating a story that I can be attached to for my Elf. I find it hard to play a character that I’m not really feeling storywise. I’ve got something, but I’m just not super drawn to it. I’ve got another character that I would absolutely love to play and fits the kind of character story I really enjoy telling. The problem, if you can call it that, is that my elf character is really being tied into the story and events happening. Some very big things too. Normally I’d love this, but I kind of feel bad. Would it be an arsehole move to tell my DM that I want to drop my Elf character and move on to this new one I really like?

Thanks.
