[Art] [Comm] Shani, Wood Elf Monk — WIP Artbook /u/kannezart DnD: Roll for Initiative!

Hey guys! I’ve recently been working on a DnD 5th Ed character of mine and I wanted to show it here! It’s an artbook in progress (now with 3 pages of concepts and sketches).

Although it doesn’t have anything explicit, some concepts have slightly suggestive content/partial nudity — either for technical study purposes or character gestures —, so I’m posting it as [NSFW]:

This is the first DnD character that I’m actually playing with! So I’m using her for several design experiments including outfits, weapons, objects, etc. I still have a lot of ideas for her, and I’ll keep updating the artbook in the long run. She’s currently in lvl. 6 and I still owe her a Bracers of Defense and a Meteorhammer… but we’ll get there!

A little bit about Shani’s background:

Her father was a servant to a nobleman who was enchanted by the young Shani and made a generous offer to her family: he would pay a good sum to adopt her as an apprentice courtesan and serve him when she came of age. During her years at court, Shani learned the arts of music, dance and acrobatics — yup, “Artist Antecedent”. Until, in her mid-teens, her father became very ill and passed away.

After her father’s death, Shani left the court, breaking her contract with the nobleman, and sought support at the Echo Fortress monastery. There she was welcomed by Master Kaze, who brought her words of comfort and offered to teach her monastic practices and martial arts. Shani saw this as an opportunity to overcome her grief and to chart a new life course, so she accepted the offer, dedicating herself entirely to life at the monastery and finding a new path in life.

Shani and Kaze developed a new form of martial art together, combining combat with dance and acrobatics — this is where the monastic tradition homebrew “Way of the Courtesan” comes in! For Shani, this martial art is more than a method of defense, it’s a spiritual healing and artistic expression as well that she uses to inspire others during her pilgrimages. That’s why people often take her for a bard — but she’s not, not even as a multiclass XD.
