Steam friends status while playing games /u/Morihere Steam on Reddit

I have noticed this option that sometimes people play a certain game that indicated what mode/how many people they are playing with or with whom, but sometimes steam doesn’t indicate this at all and just says they’re playing that game. Is this a setting? How can I do it? Thank you!
