I (F18) started a new workplace in 2024. It came to the Secret Santa/White elephant exchange and everyone had to go sit on “Santa’s” (the bosses’ M55) lap to receive their gift. I felt extremely uncomfortable. I didn’t want to sit on a mans lap and had no warning of this tradition beforehand. This is normal for this workplace. Everyone I have told in my life has said this is just “banter” and a bit of fun. Some of my other female colleagues jokingly told me “cover your boobs” as I went to sit down too. Please tell me this isn’t an acceptable tradition? There was no way out of it so I was forced to sit on his lap while 30 people watched and waited for their turn.
