Love playing a rogue but wanting to make combat more interesting; Ranger mutliclassing as rogue? /u/Esper01 DnD: Roll for Initiative!

I like archery, I like throwing weapons, I like being acrobatic, I like lockpicking, I like having a broad skillset, I like stealth and the odd sneak attack.

I only wish combat for rogues didn’t feel so monotonous. Sneak attacks and disengaging just to set up another sneak attack drives me nuts. Is DnD just not for me or can I get around this? A better rogue build? Maybe by playing a ranger and mutliclassing? Playing a different edition? Switching to Pathfinder?

I still consider myself a novice at DnD, just looking for the right fit.
