Why are Russians one of the poorest people in Europe despite Russia being one of the richest countries in the world? /u/QuickFix999 No such thing as stupid questions

An average Russian citizen works for peanuts getting around $450 a month in roubles. Only Moldovans, Ukranians and Belarusians have it worse in Europe. It may be a coincidence they aren’t part of the EU.

You can’t really blame the sanctions because Russians have always been poor, and various restrictions just accentuated the problem.

How come a country which is not landlocked, has plenty of gas, oil, diamonds, forests, you name it, lives worse than Slovakia which can’t really boast of anything other than beautiful women?
