I just completed Red Dead Redemption 1 and Let me say it’s an incredible and truly amazing game. The symbolism is perfect and heartbreaking. At the beginning, we understand that John is in an awful predicament, trying his hardest to reunite with his family. The most heartbreaking aspect is witnessing John see those he once called brothers become deranged outlaws, losing touch with their former selves. A father figure he looked up to reveals his true colors and insanity, not hesitating to shoot someone he once considered a son. John witnesses multiple atrocities, such as the kidnapping of innocent women who are brought to Allende and his men to be brutally assaulted and traumatized as if they were nothing. Throughout all this, you can sense John’s deep shame. Most heartbreakingly, we all knew John wouldn’t get a happy ending; his time was coming, and even he knew it when he told Jack “We all do what we have to do to survive And sometimes it ain’t pretty And in the end,we pay the price for what we did” and once John’s time came; it was sad witnessing Jack lose John, because Jack kept getting frustrated with John and his absence, thinking he wouldn’t come back, and in the end, Jack’s worst nightmare became a reality, and he witnessed his father truly leaving and never coming back. Then he loses Abigail, and he is on a quest for revenge on Edgar Ross, and once he kills Edgar in the duel, you can tell nothing changed; he still lost his father, his mother, and uncle, and most likely Rufus. It didn’t mean anything to him; he just still felt empty and lonely; everyone he loved either died or left somewhere else. Then there’s a dark, gritty tone when playing Jack and entering an empty house with no Uncle being lazy or sleeping all day, no John keeping the farm in check, and no Abigail’s cooking—just an empty farm and home with no one in it, which just leaves such an empty mood and tone to it. But besides That the game, it was truly amazing, and I don’t regret purchasing it. I really loved RDR2 and wanted to test to see if RDR1 would have given the same feeling RDR2 did, and it delivered perfectly 👏👏.
