Why do people use “suspect” instead of “suspicious”? /u/RelChan2_0 No such thing as stupid questions

Disclaimer: English is my 2nd language so I could totally be wrong.

I’ve noticed a lot of people online, especially on social media platforms, using “suspect” when they’re supposed to be describing “suspicious”.

For example:

“Her actions were suspect.”

“His behaviour is suspect during the hearing.”

In my head, this is grammatically incorrect because it sounds awkward. Or am I wrong? For me, it should be “suspicious” not “suspect”.
