Steam making inexplicable noise every 5-10 minutes /u/NotTheBeeze Steam on Reddit

Whenever Steam is open and unmuted, I am getting this strange noise that I can’t pinpoint. It’s driving me insane and I’ve no idea how to stop it. Has anyone heard this noise before.

I’ve restarted both Steam and my computer. I’ve muted every other application but Steam and it still happens.

I did recently change some settings after installing Steam Achievement Notifier (I have tried ending the software through task manager and the noise persists) but I have basically all sounds turned off in settings now.

Specifically. I have changed show notification toasts to never and disabled play a sound when a toast is displayed. I have no idea what other settings could be causing the noise. No new chats, no notifications, nothing running but Steam. What on Earth is causing this?
