If you pay a minor to shovel snow in your front yard & driveway, and they hurt themselves, can they sue you? /u/SailorPawprints No such thing as stupid questions

Title.

Husband and I brought up paying a kid money to shovel snow because we’re lazy and can afford it. You know, what a lot of kids did when we were younger.

However, because you have to be careful about everything these days, we wondered if the kid hurt themselves while doing the job, would the parents be able to sue us? Anything from maybe slipping on ice to twisting an ankle, typical injuries one might get in snowy weather.

We’re in New York, United States for reference. TIA!

EDIT: this was just a hypothetical question my husband and I were discussing, we don’t even live in a house and never owned one so homeowners insurance didn’t even come to mind. I wouldn’t use Reddit Legal & Sons for actual consultation lol. Thank you for your insights all and teaching us a few things!
