I always assumed it was an oversight to the 2014 wolf creature stat that it didn’t have darkvision. Almost all playable ancestries in 5e can see in the dark–but not a beast famous for hunting at night? A clerical error, surely!
Anyway, I’m glad they fixed it in the new wolf stat block. Has anyone else seen any updates in the 2024 creature stats so far that fixed a particular pet peeve?
And for the DM wolf enthusiasts out there, here’s some tips on how to have wolf packs hunt your player characters: https://thenaturegm.com/2025/01/04/how-to-hunt-like-wolves/#running-a-wolf-pack-hunt
I use a multi-encounter approach to ratchet up the tension. It’s effective.
