Why do we make single use products out of forever materials? /u/ScramRatz No such thing as stupid questions

I don’t get it. Plastic never breaks down. That shit will outlive all of us. Why did we decide to turn something that lasts forever into stuff we use once? Why Plastic cups, plastic forks, plastic TOOTHPICKS? You might have a case for plastic bottles since it would make transport easier, but we have no issue transporting beer in glass bottles!

Worst is, these products are designed to be used once! You’re expected to throw them away soon after! Why not make them out of a more biodegradable material like clay or paper if longevity isn’t a priority?
