I (M32) have had significantly more casual sex in the last year and a half since my last break up and an issue I keep having is that I tend to be very affectionate with women even though we’re only hooking up casually. This manifests in hand-holding, hair rubbing, romantic kissing, emotional support, cuddling, kissing their hands or foreheads, etc. I often feel like our conversations veer into personal/emotional connection fairly quickly and it makes casual sex feel risky in terms of someone catching feelings. These are things that I do naturally, “going with the flow”, and are just how I relate to my sexual partners in general but I’m worried it’s having a negative impact because it’s sometimes not aligned with my feelings about them. It’s been viewed as an “unspoken promise” that I can’t back up.
How do others navigate this? Should I avoid these types of touching to save both of us from any potential heartache?
