So I was on vacation in SEA. I remember getting suits made for $130 with 3 day turn-around. That was 15-20 years ago. I am older now and not staying at backpacker’s ghetto grotto enclaves anymore. Instead, with the family staying at the nicer parts of town. Checked out some bespoke tailors. I got sticker shock — $1200-$2000 for a blazer with 6 week turn-around and 3 fittings. I am assuming this is for the locals — the oligarchs and rich government officials. But I saw reams of fabric books – many names I never heard of but did google. Like Art Dulin and of course, they had Loro Piana linen fabric books. I was told — you want cheap, they can make a $400 blazer. When you get into the Loro Piana type fabrics, expect minimum $1500. I was very surprise. The sales people did look spiffy and all their suits were very well cut. They definitely know their stuff.
If a similar suit was $2000 in Thailand/Vietnam, how much would a comparable bespoke high quality fabric be in the States?
