This may sound like a very strange question, but hear me out. My wife and I passed a woman on the street wearing a cape buttoned over her shoulder with a skirt and hat that made us both immediately and independently think “witch.” Yet she did not look out of place in a normal city, her hat wasn’t pointy and her clothing wasn’t made out of blue sparkly materials with astrological symbols or anything like that. But still her intentions shined through her aesthetic. I’m wondering whether it is possible to pull off a similar effect with men’s clothing.
Over time I have built a versatile, safe aesthetic for myself along the lines of the standard guidelines of this sub. I’m now interested in branching out to express more individuality. Any ideas for clothing pieces, accessories, etc. that can make me feel more magical while still being acceptable street wear or business-casual, and not cringe neckbeard nonsense? If relevant, I work in academia and people are pretty chill about unusual fashion choices.
