Got Brooks Brothers suits and shirts for over half off – how did I do? /u/BillableConversation /r/malefashionadvice

I was in need of 2-3 suits relatively quickly (within a month). I have outgrown (physically) the BB suits I bought since 2017. Between the 40% off sale, the 10% on top of it, another 10% for signing up for promotions, and $90 in certificates I had close to expiring, I took an almost $4k total down to a little under $2k. I was going to go for another suit color and some more shirts given the sale, but decided to put that money towards a new suit made by my tailor.

BB will always have a warm spot in my heart for being the first “professional” clothing I bought in grad school. Before that it was suits from Goodwill that I brought to a tailor. But none matched the BB suit for feel. Even when I get a few made-to-measure or bespoke suits as my career improves, I think BB will always be my go-to “office/work” suit.

My tailor quoted me a little more per suit for an entry made-to-measure suit, but it would be at least 6 weeks after I can come in for measurements. I could have done worse than a quick order and follow-up at a local BB store.

I DID notice a bit of a dip in quality/feel compared to my 2017 suit. Definitely compared to the even older BB suits I found at GoodWill. DEFINITELY a drop in the quality of the store staff and tailor. 2017, I had a tailor put me on a stand, take measurements of shoulders, arms, inseam, everything like they were making a made-to-measure suit even though I was getting one off the rack. The tailor at the store I went to most recently just had me stand on the floor and did more eyeball measurements than actual tape (and he was the tailor, not just an associate), didn’t measure inseam, waist, neck, arms, or chest. What a shame.
