How to play a cleric /u/Infinite-Hyena2574 DnD: Roll for Initiative!

Hello, I am new to DnD and I honestly don’t know where to start I was asked to join a campaign that needed a cleric this weekend and I’m not sure how to start or what to do. I have always talked about playing and I bought dice and stuff to get myself to feel “ready” but never committed until now. I figured I’d start as a fighter or barbarian and just bonk everything so I haven’t really looked into clerics…

I’m gonna be a forge cleric because I have a hobby of blacksmithing. Could anyone help me for how to play a cleric well.

Do I just tank and hit stuff? Do I stay behind and only heal not really getting hit? And what spells are good to use?

I’m sure this has already been asked sometime but I wanted an easy way to gather information quickly and also for over time as the campaign continues.
