Going crazy trying to remember the name of a creature which travels between the planes on a “tour”. /u/zebye DnD: Roll for Initiative!

I remember watching / reading something about a creature(s) that will periodically make a journey to the different planes on a “tour”. The gap between their trips was definitely more than 10 years, and I believe they have wings. Was this somebodies homebrew or something from an old edition? I am going crazy here trying to remember!
