I want a really specific garment:
– knee-length and hooded. I want to wear the coat with a pair of rubber wellies, come inside from a large downpour of 20-45 mins, change my shoes, take off my coat, and be completely dry. No wet stains on my quads/ass. I can handle sweat with a mess undershirt if needed.
– natural rubber / natural coating. I want to keep water out at all costs (no need for vents but not against it), because I will not be outside long enough to be bothered by the sweat retention. Not a fan of Goretex just because of social media outrage over the coating’s health impact. Not at all informed about the actual issues with the Goretex coating, just scared. A wax coat is on the table since it doesn’t rain a ton where I intend to use the jacket.
– brightly colored / reflective (if possible). I want to be seen in the rain and do not want a dark navy, green, or black matte coat. I want a reflective, oddly colored (bright yellow, bright pink, or neon green) coat if possible.
– wind resistant. Without this, a poncho would do the job well, but taking my dog for a walk and having to wrestle with my poncho’s fabric to pick up poop in the rain doesn’t seem pleasant.
– thick/solidly built. I want material for days and don’t want to brush up against a branch and have a gapping hole my jacket. I’m going to use this jacket maybe a dozen times in the year and don’t want it breaking on me if I take care of the garment.
– available in an XXL. I’m a large and tall man.
– under $500. I generally think I should be able to get a natural rubber crafted with durably welded seams for under this price.
I’ve done some looking, but nothing perfect. I’ve looked at Stutterheim, and their Long Raincoat would be perfect besides the lack of XXLs and the colors. Rains has long coats, parkas, and a cape. The long coat and parka have the same problems: muted colors and only waterproof for light rain. The cape doesn’t look like a fun time in wind. I’ve started looking at workwear and found stuff like guycotten’s ROSBRAS. Guycotten would be great if it were longer and if I could figure out the coating.
Any suggestions or know someone that could make me a custom coat?
