Not sure if this is a stupid question or not, but with all the portal’ing during Winter Veil, I keep asking myself why Blizzard doesn’t just make every mage portal universally accessible, at least by faction? Why is it limited to just party/group members? It seems, to me at least, kind of pointless.
1) It would make a better QoL experience for players.
2) It would be more ‘realistic’ in terms of MMORPG open world play. If a portal is created, what would block anyone from stepping in from an in-game universe perspective.
3) It would make big group content like Winter Veil more enjoyable as mages could just create portals for everyone at the end of a fight. Right now they have to offer, invite/accept people, you join, use it, then leave the group. Just a waste of time really.
The only other MMORPG I ever played was Ultima Online back in the day, and while it was somewhat classless (anyone could learn how to open portals or other mage spells), there was nothing stopping people from just walking into someone else’s if they wanted. Even better, it was instant and bi-directional. I remember often just walking through some random person’s portal to see what was on the other side, and stepping back through if it wasn’t interesting or whatnot.
Anyway, just something that has been bothering me recently and I’m not sure if there is some legit reason to prevent it.
