TLDR: Process engineer with semiconductors experience wants to jump into tech to get away from manufacturing. Looking for most realistic pivot.
I worked as a hardware engineer then a process engineer at 2 semiconductor companies. Basically the two large ones in the US.
Both roles were interesting but recently left my process role to pursue something not in manufacturing. My teams been tense do the semiconductor low and the environment becoming toxic.
I was working as the python guy making all the charts and data science work for the team.
Mostly doing basic machine learning but mainly data mining and explaining things to management for long term defect problems.
My goal is one day to start a business but I think I need some experience in tech so that I can learn more about the ins and outs of software development rather then just making projects at home. I’m mostly interested in SAAS products and companies like Stripe but they seem harder to break into since I’m coming from complete left field.
Any suggestions for routes that I can take that are more feasible. Just anything not related to manufacturing. I’m tired of the daily grind and constant breakdown maintenance.
