Sorry if the title is vague. So basically, this applies to things like when they cast perception. Do I just tell them what the surroundings is and if something unique pops in? Or should I ask how they wish to do so? Example
DM: How do you wish to do so?
PLAYER: I would like to take a look at the surroundings and take a sniff of the air.
How about for investigation? I get a lil confused when players say they roll for Investigation and that’s it. In such situations, I often ask myself how they want to do it? Like let’s say the scenario is they suspect there is a hidden room so they investigate. Like do they knock to see if its hollow? If there are wires or gaps?
