I just completed all the tech onsite rounds for Google L4 (equivalent to SDE2) in India. Here’s my strict self-evaluation based on what happened:
Phone Screen:
- Solved a Multi-Source BFS Graph problem with all three follow-ups.
- The recruiter gave super positive feedback, and the interviewer seemed happy with my performance.
Onsite Interviews:
Round 1:
- Solved the original Graph problem and its follow-up.
- The interviewer confirmed my approach for the follow-up was correct during the dry run. However, they mentioned my code was a bit complicated due to some extra calculations, which weren’t needed. These didn’t impact time/space complexity, though.
- Likely Verdict: Lean Hire or Hire if they overlook the complexity issue.
Round 2:
- Solved the original problem and its follow-up (queue-based design problem).
- There was a small bug in the follow-up where I forgot to decrement a variable after inserting elements into the queue. The interviewer pointed it out and asked me to find it, but I couldn’t locate it during the interview. Everything else went well, though.
- Likely Verdict: Hire if the bug isn’t stressed much, otherwise Lean Hire.
Round 3:
- Solved a Tree problem and two follow-ups.
- Everything went smoothly with no issues.
- Likely Verdict: Strong Hire.
Other Highlights:
- Throughout the rounds, I wrote modular, clean code, discussed my thought process clearly, dry-ran my solutions, and provided accurate time/space complexity.
Googliness Round:
- This is still pending.
