It’s a bit weird to me that old stories (or legends, folklore, superstitions, supernatural creatures, etc) are very focused on them stealing children. Some make more sense, like when they supposedly steal them to eat or for some specific gain – but some have nothing of that sort and seem to steal babies and keep them around? But human babies are SO much work, how are they keeping them fed or educating them? Why do they want them, surely they’d just interfere with the creature’s typical activities of daily living?
