For backstory I’m in my mid twenties and have a bachelors in CS from a UK university and I work in the UK. Been working for over three years now in a software job mainly doing web dev with typescript and working on golang APIs.
I enjoy it and it pays well but I’m not sure I want to be working on sites and apps forever, I’m quite interested in eventually working on something physical like robotics for example or something computer vision related. However my only expertise right now is in software.
I’ve also had plans to move to Germany for while for a few years, I’ve always been interested in the language and culture and can speak German fairly well. I’ve been looking at getting a software job there and moving but it’s been quite difficult trying to line up renting an apartment, getting a job and leaving my current job/rented apartment in the UK.
I understand I’ll probably need to do a masters to get into one of these fields which I’m not particularly keen to do. However it would probably make moving to and later getting a job in Germany easier. Problem is the masters courses there are usually two years and I’m probably looking at a 2026 start. Furthermore I have about 20k in savings which I was looking at putting towards a house deposit at some point – unfortunately I found balancing work very difficult in my bachelors and a side job would have been impossible for me, so doing a two year masters would likely mean draining most or all of my savings. So I’d be finishing at 28 with no money and trying to get into a competitive field.. sounds like a big risk.
Hopefully this all makes sense, just really a bit stuck right now and any guidance would help.
